It all started when Ran lost her smartphone. Shinichi promises to replace it, but the high schooler is already making his name as a consulting detective for the police; when he abruptly leaves her karate tournament to skillfully solve a high-society murder case, Shinichi's going to have a take Ran on a special date to get back on her good side. A colorful amusement park beckons — and so does a horrifying act of homicide!

Where it came from
Released in 2016 to celebrate the twentieth anniversary of the Detective Conan anime, Episode ONE is a feature-length television special that serves as a high-definition reimagining of the series' very first episode. It was produced by TMS Entertainment to provide a comprehensive look at the events preceding Shinichi Kudo's transformation into Conan Edogawa, filling in narrative gaps and modernizing the animation style for contemporary audiences while maintaining the series' long-standing visual identity.
The special was written and supervised by series creator Gosho Aoyama, who intended for the project to act as a definitive prequel that clarifies the timeline of the Black Organization's initial activities. It was well-received by the franchise's dedicated fanbase for its updated character designs and its attention to the original source material, effectively bridging the gap between the pilot episode and the decades of storytelling that followed.
