Everything you thought you knew about vampires is wrong. They can walk in the daylight and holy water doesn't burn them. In fact, vampires can pass as normal humans so perfectly that even other vampires have trouble spotting them. Until they drink human blood, that is; then they transform into monstrous beasts who mindlessly rape and murder. But not all vampires are evil. The secret task force that patrols Tokyo's vampire population has several fanged operatives, including half-human Yuuki Anzai, who believes that his human heritage lets him resist his species' basest cravings. But after Yuuki rescues college student Tsukasa Taira from a vampire stalker, he realizes that he's succumbing to urges he's never felt before.

Where it came from
Devils' Line was adapted into a twelve-episode television series in 2018 by the animation studio Platinum Vision, based on the dark fantasy manga series created by Ryo Hanada. The narrative explores a contemporary world where vampires exist among humans, focusing on the volatile relationship between a human graduate student and a hybrid detective. The production aimed to lean into the mature, gritty aesthetic of the source material, emphasizing the psychological toll of the characters' supernatural conditions rather than traditional action-oriented tropes.
The character designs and animation direction were handled by Chisato Kawaguchi, who sought to maintain the moody, noir-inspired atmosphere prevalent in Hanada’s original illustrations. While the series garnered attention for its unique take on the 'vampire romance' genre, it received a mixed reception from critics and audiences, with praise directed toward its thematic depth and character chemistry, balanced against critiques regarding the pacing and the condensation of the manga’s complex plot points.
