Where it came from
Di Ling Ai, also known as Spiritpact, began as a serialized Chinese manhua by Pingzi before being adapted into an ONA series by the studio Motion Magic. Released as a collaborative effort to bridge the growing animation market between China and Japan, the series explores themes of spiritual connection and bond-forging through the lens of a xianxia-inspired narrative.
The animation style is characterized by Motion Magic's signature use of 3D-to-2D hybrid techniques, intended to capture the fluid, dramatic action sequences prevalent in contemporary Chinese digital animation. While the series faced mixed critical reception regarding its pacing and adaptation choices from the original source material, it remains a notable example of the studio's early efforts to export Chinese web-based intellectual property to international streaming platforms.
