Where it came from
Di Ling Qu: Nanjiang Miwu, also known as The Grave Robbers' Chronicles: Southern Xinjiang Mist, is an original net animation produced by Zhuo Hua Network. It was released to capitalize on the sustained popularity of the Daomu Biji (Grave Robbers' Chronicles) franchise, which has undergone numerous adaptations across television, literature, and film. The series focuses on the adventurous and supernatural elements inherent in the source material, specifically targeting the domestic Chinese streaming market.
The visual direction for this ONA emphasizes a dark, atmospheric aesthetic intended to capture the suspenseful tone of the original novels. By utilizing 3D-assisted animation techniques, the studio aimed to render the expansive landscapes of Southern Xinjiang and the intricate traps faced by the protagonists. While reception was tempered by the high expectations of the massive existing fanbase, the production is recognized for its commitment to visual world-building and adherence to the established lore of the series.
