Where it came from
Diary of Our Days at the Breakwater, known in Japan as Hōkago Teibō Nisshi, was produced by Doga Kobo and aired in 2020. Adapted from the manga series by Yasuyuki Kosaka, the anime follows Hina Tsurugi, a high school student who is reluctantly recruited into her school's fishing club. The series was designed as a slice-of-life comedy that highlights the methodical, relaxing nature of fishing alongside the interpersonal growth of its members.
The production team at Doga Kobo focused on translating the intricate illustrations of various marine life and fishing gear from the source material into a vibrant visual style. Upon its release, the series was received as a gentle, educational look at angling culture. While its broadcast schedule faced minor delays due to the global pandemic, it remains appreciated for its cozy aesthetic and its commitment to depicting the nuances of its specific hobbyist subject matter.
