Where it came from
Di Ba, produced by Yuewen Animation & Comics, serves as a prominent example of the expansion of Chinese web-literature into the animated medium. Released as an ONA (Original Net Animation), the series is adapted from a popular internet novel, reflecting the growing trend of turning high-traffic online serials into serialized animated content to capture the demographic of young domestic viewers who prioritize fast-paced, episodic storytelling.
The visual direction and character designs in Di Ba were crafted to align with modern aesthetic standards found in the Chinese animation industry, characterized by high-contrast digital modeling and an emphasis on kinetic action sequences. The production aimed to distill the complex world-building of the source material into a visual format that could sustain audience interest across its episodic run, receiving attention primarily from enthusiasts of domestic web-novel adaptations who track the translation of literary tropes into animated choreography.
