That life changed abruptly, however, when Misato died trying to aid a little girl and met god. During that meeting, she made an odd request and asked for average abilities in her next life. Where it came from
Didn't I Say to Make My Abilities Average in the Next Life?! originated as a light novel series written by FUNA, which was adapted into this 2019 anime television series produced by studio project No.9. The story follows a girl who, after living an extraordinary life, asks to be born with average abilities in her next existence, only to have her wish granted with a twist that leaves her far more powerful than intended. This premise fits squarely within the 'isekai' subgenre, which frequently explores themes of reincarnation and the subversion of fantasy power tropes.
The animation production was helmed by director Masahiko Ohta, who sought to emphasize the series' lighthearted, comedic tone over the high-stakes action typical of the genre. By leaning into the character-driven humor and the whimsical interactions between the main cast, the studio aimed to highlight the slice-of-life elements of the narrative. Upon its release, the series was received as a gentle, approachable entry in the studio's portfolio, noted for its character designs and its straightforward, episodic approach to the protagonist's adventures.
