Where it came from
Die Now, also known as Du Ming, is a Chinese original net animation (ONA) produced by Haoliners Animation League. Released in 2016, the series is based on a popular web manga by author Liu Yige. The narrative centers on a protagonist who discovers a supernatural ability to see the countdown timers above people's heads, signaling their approaching deaths, which forces him to navigate complex moral dilemmas and high-stakes survival scenarios.
The production reflects the mid-2010s trend of Chinese animation studios adapting web-based source material to capture a growing digital audience. Haoliners Animation utilized a stylized, minimalist approach to character design to contrast the gritty, suspenseful themes of the story. While the series received attention for its dark premise and unique conceptual hook, it remains a niche entry in the studio's broader catalog of serialized web content.
