Dies irae: To the ring reincarnation

Dies irae: To the ring reincarnation was released in 2018 as a direct-to-web ONA spin-off following the 2017 anime adaptation of the visual novel series originally developed by Light. The series emerged from a highly ambitious, fan-funded Kickstarter campaign that sought to bring the sprawling, dark fantasy narrative of the visual novels to the screen. This particular project served as an extension of the primary anime, aiming to flesh out character backgrounds and specific narrative beats that were constrained by the pacing of the main television broadcast.

The animation was produced by studio A.C.G.T., which took over the production duties to provide a lighter, more comedic tone compared to the intense, supernatural gravity of the original visual novel. The production team aimed to bridge the gap between the source material's heavy philosophical themes and the demands of a shorter, digital-first format. While the visual novel is renowned for its complex lore and distinctive character designs by G-Yuusuke, this iteration was received primarily by the existing enthusiast base who valued the additional character interactions and tonal shift away from the main series' grim atmosphere.
