DINOZAURS : THE SERIES

Dinozaurs: The Series was produced by the acclaimed Japanese animation studio Sunrise and released in 2000. It emerged during a period of heavy cross-media experimentation in the children's television market, aiming to capitalize on the enduring popularity of dinosaur-themed merchandise by blending traditional kaiju tropes with futuristic mechanical elements. The series follows the story of the Dino Knights, ancient warriors who are revived in the future to protect the Earth from the nefarious Dr. Drift and his army of Dino-clones.

The character designs were conceived to facilitate toy sales, featuring complex, robot-like transformations that reflected the aesthetic sensibilities of turn-of-the-millennium mecha anime. Directed by Hiroshi Negishi, the series utilized a mix of hand-drawn animation and early computer-generated imagery. While it secured a spot in international syndication blocks, the show received a mixed critical reception, often noted for its formulaic approach and its clear intent to serve as an extended promotional vehicle for its associated toy line.
