Where it came from
Doki Doki School Hours, known in Japan as Sensei no Ojikan, originated as a manga series by Tamami Momose before being adapted into a television anime by J.C.Staff in 2004. Following the television run, this OVA was produced as a supplemental installment to expand upon the series' comedic exploration of the daily lives of an unconventional middle school class and their overly serious teacher, Mika Yamaguchi.
The animation reflects the aesthetic sensibilities of J.C.Staff during the early 2000s, focusing on character-driven humor and slice-of-life tropes. The series was designed to balance eccentric character archetypes with lighthearted school-life narratives, and it was received by audiences as a quintessential example of the gentle, gag-focused anime genre popular during that era.
