Dokkiri Doctor Special

Dokkiri Doctor originated as a manga series by Kazuhiko Miyoshi and Masashi Okada, serialized in Weekly Shonen Jump starting in 1998. The story follows Dr. Nishikikoji, a genius but eccentric physician who treats his patients with unconventional and often slapstick methods. The 1999 television special was produced by Studio Pierrot to adapt the quirky medical comedy, capturing the zany energy of the original print run during a time when the studio was heavily invested in shonen properties.

The character design and overall visual tone for the animation were meant to translate Miyoshi's stylized, expressive artwork into a fluid broadcast format. While the series was generally well-received for its lighthearted humor and character dynamics, it remained a modest entry in Studio Pierrot's extensive catalog, reflecting the experimental spirit of late 90s anime adaptations that focused on character-driven gag comedy rather than long-form action narratives.
