After Suneo bragged about having a ranch, Nobita was asked whether or not he has one, pressuring him to say yes. Doraemon won a number of lotteries for useless planets in the belt between Mars and Jupiter. When Suneo and the rest came to see the ranch, Nobita happened to read the last of the lottery number to the go-anywhere-door, leading them to a huge dreamlike area. As Nobita's toy horse pranced around because of the wind-up life gadget, Suneo and the others became interested in doing the same to their toys and let them live in the area. So they decided to make their own clockwork city.

Where it came from
Released in 1997 as the 18th installment in the long-running Doraemon film franchise, Nobita's Adventure in Clockwork City holds the distinction of being the final film in the series to be written by Fujiko F. Fujio, the original creator of the manga. Production was marked by a sense of melancholy among the staff, as Fujio passed away during the film's development, leading the creative team to pour extra care into the narrative to honor his legacy.
The film's design reflects the series' signature blend of whimsical science fiction and character-driven adventure, focusing on a sentient planet built from clockwork machinery. Directed by Tsutomu Shibayama, the animation maintains the classic aesthetic of the 1990s television series while expanding the visual scale for the big screen. Upon release, it was well-received by audiences for its imaginative world-building and serves as a poignant closing chapter to the creator's direct involvement in the cinematic evolution of his characters.
