Doubutsu Kankyou Kaigi

Doubutsu Kankyou Kaigi, or Animal Environment Conference, originated as a project to raise awareness about environmental issues through a whimsical, anthropomorphic lens. Produced by Studio DEEN and released in 2010, the series centers on a group of animals who gather to debate the state of the planet, mirroring real-world international climate summits. The narrative structure is designed to be accessible to a younger audience, using humor and character-driven scenarios to simplify complex ecological topics like deforestation, pollution, and climate change.

The visual design of the series reflects a distinct shift toward digital character modeling, prioritizing simple, expressive forms that emphasize the animals' distinct personalities. Studio DEEN utilized this project to experiment with blending educational messaging with traditional slice-of-life anime tropes. Upon its release, the series was noted for its earnest commitment to environmental advocacy, though it remained a niche production that served as a specialized tool for environmental education rather than a mainstream commercial success.
