Where it came from
Doubutsu Mura no Daisodou, known in English as Animal Village's Great Disturbance, was released in 1970 as a short animated film produced by Toei Animation. Created during a period when the studio was heavily focused on expanding its output of family-oriented features, the production was intended to showcase the lighthearted, episodic storytelling style common to the era's children's television and theatrical shorts.
The film was directed by Hiroshi Ikeda, a notable figure at Toei who was instrumental in defining the visual language of the studio’s animated shorts in the late 1960s and early 1970s. The design reflects the bright, expressive aesthetic typical of the period, prioritizing kinetic movement and clear character archetypes to appeal to a younger demographic. While it remains a niche entry in the Toei filmography, it serves as a testament to the studio's mid-century effort to dominate the domestic market for children's entertainment.
