Dragon Ball Z: Bojack Unbound

Released in July 1993 during the peak of the original Dragon Ball Z television run, Bojack Unbound serves as the ninth theatrical film in the franchise. It was produced by Toei Animation as part of the Toei Anime Fair, a recurring seasonal event that paired multiple short animated features together for cinema audiences. The narrative takes place during the interregnum following the Cell Games, positioning the story as a standalone diversion from the main series timeline while utilizing the character dynamics established after Goku's departure.

The film was directed by Yoshihiro Ueda and features character designs overseen by Tadayoshi Yamamuro, who was instrumental in defining the visual aesthetic of the Z era. The production team focused on creating a high-stakes tournament setting, a hallmark of the series, while introducing the Galaxy Soldiers—a group of interstellar criminals led by the titular Bojack. It received a generally positive reception from fans of the period for its fluid animation quality and the opportunity to showcase Gohan as the primary protagonist, solidifying his role as the protector of Earth in his father's absence.
