Dragon Ball Z: Bio-Broly

Released in July 1994 as the eleventh Dragon Ball Z feature film, Bio-Broly was produced by Toei Animation during the height of the franchise's cinematic output in the mid-nineties. The film serves as a direct follow-up to the previous Broly-centric entries, shifting the narrative focus toward a genetic experiment gone wrong that results in a clone of the legendary Saiyan rather than the original character himself.

The film was directed by Yoshihiro Ueda, with character designs provided by Tadayoshi Yamamuro, who remained a staple of the series' visual identity throughout the nineties. Eschewing the grander stakes of earlier films, Bio-Broly is often remembered for its experimental approach to the series' combat tropes and its unique environmental setting, though it received a mixed reception from critics and fans who found the departure from the traditional Saiyan-versus-Saiyan conflict to be a distinct shift in tone for the cinematic series.
