DRAMAtical Murder

DRAMAtical Murder was released as a television anime adaptation in 2014, based on the 2012 visual novel developed by Nitroplus Chiral. The source material gained a cult following for its distinct fusion of cyberpunk aesthetics and psychological narrative, set in the dystopian future of Midorijima. The anime adaptation was produced by the studio NAZ and directed by Kazuya Miura, aiming to distill the complex branching paths of the original game into a cohesive linear visual experience.

The production sought to maintain the high-contrast, neon-drenched art style characteristic of the original visual novel, which was heavily influenced by industrial and street fashion aesthetics. While the series was highly anticipated by the existing fanbase due to its unconventional narrative and character designs, the reception was mixed among critics and general audiences, who often found that the transition from a multi-ending interactive format to a traditional 12-episode anime series resulted in a narrative that felt truncated compared to its source.
