Sometimes daydreaming can get you into trouble, but what do you do when it's other people's dreams that you have to watch out for? Yumeji Fujiwara has the unique ability to predict what kind of dreams other people will have, but lately, his own dreams have taken a bizarre turn in which he's being pursued by armies of cats. Stranger yet, Yumeji learns that the leader of the dream cats needs his body to access the Real World.
Finally, the strange becomes downright weird when a beautiful girl suddenly drops on top of him and announces that she's a Dream Demon looking for a way back to the Dream World! The fabric that separates reality and fantasy is torn to shreds, and Yumeji has a lot of sleepless nights ahead of him as he has to deal with both the dream stalking and a dream walking!

Where it came from
Dream Eater Merry was produced by J.C.Staff and aired in 2011, adapted from the manga series by Yoshitaka Ushiki. The story centers on Yumeji Fujiwara, a young man who gains the ability to see the aura of others' dreams, and his encounter with Merry Nightmare, a girl who has crossed over from the Dream World into reality. The series explores themes of identity and the surreal nature of subconscious landscapes, aiming to blend high-concept fantasy with the slice-of-life tropes common in early 2010s anime.
The production design sought to visually distinguish the mundane reality of Yumeji’s world from the vibrant, shifting aesthetics of the Dream World. Directed by Shigeyasu Yamauchi, the series utilizes a distinct color palette to differentiate these realms, a stylistic choice intended to emphasize the protagonist's disorientation. While it received moderate attention for its unique premise and atmospheric visuals, it remains a niche entry in J.C.Staff's extensive catalog, often cited by fans for its imaginative world-building rather than widespread critical acclaim.
