Where it came from
Dream Festival! originated in 2016 as a multimedia project developed by Bandai Namco Pictures, designed to bridge the gap between digital interaction and traditional animation. The project was conceived as a 2.5D idol franchise where the narrative of five aspiring idols was heavily tied to a collectible card game component, allowing fans to 'support' characters by physically scanning cards to influence the story's performance elements.
The animation was produced by Bandai Namco Pictures, utilizing a distinct visual style that blends cel-shaded 3D character models with traditional backgrounds. The aesthetic sought to capture the high-energy, choreographed nature of J-pop performances. Upon its release as an ONA, the series was received primarily as a commercial tool for the broader project, finding a niche audience among enthusiasts of idol-themed media and rhythmic gaming.
