Dungeon Meshi: Senshi no Kantan Cooking!

Dungeon Meshi: Senshi no Kantan Cooking! was produced by the stop-motion animation studio dwarf in 2017 to celebrate the ongoing popularity of Ryoko Kui's fantasy manga series. Released as an original net animation, this short feature highlights the character Senshi, a dwarf warrior obsessed with cooking monsters, as he demonstrates culinary techniques within the dungeon environment. The project served as a promotional bridge between the manga's publication and the eventual full-scale anime adaptation, effectively utilizing stop-motion to capture the tactile, earthy aesthetic of Senshi's character design.

The animation was directed and crafted by the artisans at dwarf, a studio renowned for its meticulous puppet work and warm, handcrafted style. By choosing stop-motion over traditional 2D animation for this specific short, the creators emphasized the grounded, physical nature of Senshi's cooking process. Upon its release, the project was well-received by the manga's fanbase, who praised its faithfulness to the source material's tone and the clever, whimsical way it visualized the series' signature monster recipes.
