Etotama: Nyankyaku Banrai

Etotama: Nyankyaku Banrai was released in 2021 as a sequel project to the original 2015 television anime series. Produced by Studio Shirogumi, the ONA (Original Net Animation) was designed to revitalize the franchise's unique premise, which blends elements of the Chinese zodiac with tactical combat and magical girl tropes. The production aimed to maintain the series' signature aesthetic, characterized by the distinct contrast between traditional 2D character designs and 3D computer-generated action sequences, a hallmark of Shirogumi's animation style.

The development of this follow-up focused on expanding the narrative scope while retaining the core cast of zodiac-based characters. The creative team leaned into the comedic and high-energy tone established in the first season, prioritizing dynamic character interactions that define the series' niche appeal. Upon its release, the project was primarily received by the established fanbase, serving as a self-contained continuation that sought to balance nostalgic elements with updated animation techniques, solidifying its place as a supplementary work within the broader Etotama media landscape.
