Where it came from
The Etotama TV Mikoukai Short Episodes were produced in 2015 as exclusive supplemental content for the Etotama anime series. This project was developed as a collaborative effort between studios Shirogumi and Encourage Films, intended to expand upon the whimsical premise of the Eto-Musume, or Zodiac spirits, who compete for positions in the Chinese zodiac. These shorts were designed to bridge the narrative gaps within the main broadcast, utilizing the same blend of traditional 2D animation and high-quality 3D computer-generated segments that defined the show's experimental visual style.
The character designs for the franchise were conceptualized by QP:flapper, an artist duo known for their distinctively vibrant and expressive aesthetic. Their work on this series sought to contrast the intense, action-oriented battles of the Zodiac spirits with a lighthearted, comedic tone. While the main anime received moderate attention for its technical ambitiousness, these unpublished short episodes were curated for dedicated fans and home media releases, serving as a deep-dive exploration of the characters' daily lives outside of their combat sequences.
