Where it came from
Even a Dad Still Wants It... is a 2019 original net animation (ONA) produced by the Japanese studio Magic Bus. The short film emerged from a niche segment of the animation industry that explores domestic themes and the complexities of parenthood through a sentimental lens, often characterized by the studio's interest in character-driven narratives that emphasize subtle emotional development rather than high-octane action sequences.
The production design reflects a minimalist aesthetic typical of mid-to-late 2010s independent Japanese shorts, focusing on grounded, realistic portrayals of home life. While the project received limited mainstream distribution outside of specialized platforms, it is recognized by enthusiasts of Magic Bus’s filmography for its restrained pacing and its attempt to capture the enduring nature of childhood interests carried into adulthood.
