Where it came from
F, an anime television series produced by Studio DEEN and released in 1988, is an adaptation of the manga series of the same name by Noboru Rokuda. Set within the world of professional motorsport, the series follows the life and career of a young protagonist as he navigates the high-stakes environment of Formula racing. It emerged during a period in the late 1980s when Japanese animation frequently explored themes of athletic ambition and rigorous technical pursuit.
The production sought to capture the visceral intensity of the racing track through traditional cel animation techniques, reflecting Studio DEEN’s established style for character-driven narratives. While the series maintains a niche status compared to larger, more globally recognized sports anime of that era, it is respected among enthusiasts for its faithful translation of Rokuda's original aesthetic and its grounded approach to the mechanics and drama of the racing circuit.
