Rick Wheeler was a police detective who got into a fatal car accident while pursuing the criminal Zoda. He was placed into artificial coldsleep for 150 years. Wheeler is brought back to life by Jody Summer and Dr. Stewart, who work with a group of good racers who try to keep prize money out of the hands of unsavory people like the Dark Million Organization run by Black Shadow and Deathborn.

Where it came from
F-Zero: GP Legend was produced by Ashi Productions and released in Japan in 2003, serving as a tie-in to the Game Boy Advance title of the same name. Developed as part of a multimedia synergy effort between Nintendo and the anime industry, the series aimed to expand the narrative depth of the F-Zero universe, which had previously been defined primarily by its high-speed arcade racing mechanics and futuristic aesthetic.
The show's design team adapted the established character roster from the video games, placing them into a serialized narrative centered on the protagonist Rick Wheeler. While the series was designed to appeal to younger audiences through traditional shonen tropes and intense racing sequences, it is often noted for its attempts to weave a cohesive backstory for the enigmatic Captain Falcon, ultimately receiving a mixed reception from international audiences upon its later localization.
