Where it came from
Fanfare of Adolescence was produced by studio Lay-duce and released in 2022 as an original anime series centered on the competitive world of horse racing. The narrative follows three teenage boys who enroll in an elite horse racing academy to become jockeys, navigating the grueling physical and psychological demands of the sport while building lifelong friendships. The series was designed to appeal to viewers interested in sports-themed character dramas, focusing on the intersection of adolescence and the discipline required to succeed in a professional field.
The character designs were handled by Hiro Kanzaki, an artist known for his distinct, clean aesthetic in light novel illustrations. Kanzaki aimed to give the protagonists a youthful, expressive look that balanced the intensity of the racing sequences with the softer, slice-of-life moments inherent in school-based anime. Upon its release, the series was acknowledged for its unique subject matter, as it shifted the focus from the horses themselves to the technical and personal development of the aspiring riders, though it received mixed critical reception regarding its pacing and character development.
