Where it came from
Fault!! Service: Aratanaru Rival is a 2013 original video animation produced by the studio T-REX. It belongs to the broader Fault series, which originated as an adult visual novel franchise centered around the sport of tennis. This specific production was created to expand the narrative of the franchise, adapting its blend of sports drama and adult themes into an animated format during a period when niche visual novel adaptations were frequently commissioned for the home video market.
The character designs and animation were handled by T-REX, focusing on the visual tropes common to the genre at the time. While the production is relatively obscure and limited in its critical reach, it serves as a piece of franchise continuity for fans of the source material. It reflects the stylistic trends of 2010s-era direct-to-video anime, prioritizing character-driven scenarios and fan-focused storytelling over large-scale animation techniques.
