Fig Smoke

Fig Smoke is a fragrance released by the niche perfume house Diptyque, designed to evoke the olfactory experience of a fig tree in the heat of summer. It was created by perfumer Olivier Pescheux, who aimed to capture not just the fruit, but the entirety of the tree, incorporating the greenness of the leaves, the woodiness of the branches, and the earthy depth of the soil. The scent is often noted for its sophisticated balance between sweet, sun-drenched notes and a subtle, smoky resinous finish that distinguishes it from more traditional fruit-based fragrances.

As part of the broader Diptyque catalog, which traces its origins to the 1961 boutique on Boulevard Saint-Germain in Paris, the fragrance reflects the brand's commitment to artistic and travel-inspired narratives. The design process focused on translating the sensory memory of the Mediterranean landscape into a bottle. Upon its release, the scent was well-received by the fragrance community for its complex profile, earning a reputation as a nuanced interpretation of a classic botanical theme that avoids the cloying sweetness sometimes associated with fig-based perfumes.
