Where it came from
The Chibi Playhouse series was produced by Intelligent Systems and Nintendo as a lighthearted promotional ONA to celebrate the ongoing success of the Fire Emblem Heroes mobile game. Released in 2021, these shorts were designed to expand the franchise's presence beyond tactical gameplay, offering fans a glimpse into the daily, often humorous lives of the series' extensive cast of characters when they are away from the battlefield.
The visual direction leans heavily into the super-deformed or 'chibi' aesthetic, which is a hallmark of the game's unit sprites. By utilizing a simplified, expressive art style, the studio aimed to highlight the personalities of heroes from across the franchise's long history. The series was well-received by the player community for its charming animation and its ability to bridge the gap between the serious narrative of the main games and the casual nature of the mobile title.
