Fire Emblem Heroes - Holiday - Chibi Playhouse

Released in 2021, the Holiday Chibi Playhouse is a digital short produced by Nintendo and Intelligent Systems as part of the promotional material for the mobile strategy game Fire Emblem Heroes. This piece was created to celebrate the game's annual winter seasonal event, which features iconic characters from the long-running tactical role-playing franchise reimagined in festive attire. The short utilizes the signature 'chibi' art style popularized by the game's official illustrations, focusing on cute, exaggerated character proportions that contrast with the series' typically serious medieval fantasy themes.

The aesthetic direction for this production was spearheaded by the internal art teams at Intelligent Systems, who maintain the cohesive visual identity of the Fire Emblem series. By leaning into the lighthearted nature of the game’s seasonal celebrations, the studio aimed to foster engagement with their community during the holidays. The piece was well-received by the existing player base, who valued the expansion of the game’s lore and the playful character interactions that occur outside of the high-stakes narrative found in the main console titles.
