Where it came from
Flow of Life emerged from Geidai Animation, the specialized production arm associated with the Tokyo University of the Arts. Established to foster professional-grade output from graduate students and faculty, the studio functions as an incubator for experimental storytelling. This film was developed within that academic-artistic environment, reflecting the studio's commitment to pushing the boundaries of traditional cel and digital techniques to explore themes of transience and nature.
The film's visual language was crafted to emphasize fluid motion and atmospheric texture, prioritizing evocative abstraction over rigid narrative structure. By utilizing the university's technical resources, the creators experimented with non-linear pacing that was well-received in festival circuits for its poetic sensibility. It stands as a representative example of Geidai's pedagogical philosophy, where the medium of animation is treated as a form of fine art rather than purely commercial entertainment.
