Four Seasons: Fuuka and Nanami

Four Seasons: Fuuka and Nanami was produced by Studio Shimogumi and released in 2015 as a short-form original net animation. It was conceptualized as a thematic exploration of seasonal aesthetics, blending traditional Japanese imagery with the stylistic sensibilities of mid-2010s digital animation. The project sought to evoke a sense of quiet nostalgia, focusing on the atmospheric interactions between the titular characters, Fuuka and Nanami, as they navigate the transitions of the natural world.

The animation design was overseen by Shimogumi’s core creative team, who emphasized soft color palettes and fluid motion to distinguish the work from more commercially driven studio productions of the era. Upon its release, the ONA was noted by enthusiasts of experimental animation for its minimalist narrative approach and the technical proficiency displayed in its lighting effects. While it remains a niche entry in the studio's catalog, it is regarded as a representative example of independent web-based Japanese animation that prioritized artistic mood over conventional episodic storytelling.
