Free! -Timeless Medley- The Promise

Free! -Timeless Medley- The Promise was produced by Kyoto Animation in 2017 as the second installment of a two-part compilation film series. This project was designed to bridge the narrative gap between the series' second season and the subsequent theatrical releases, focusing specifically on the character arc of Rin Matsuoka. By restructuring key events from the television anime, the film aimed to provide a deeper, more cohesive exploration of his personal growth and his complicated relationship with his teammates.

The film maintains the high-quality animation standards established by director Eisaku Kawanami and Kyoto Animation's renowned production team. Their focus was to refine the existing source material through updated sequences and re-recorded dialogue, creating an immersive cinematic experience that honors the themes of competitive swimming and interpersonal growth. Upon release, it was well-received by fans of the franchise for its refined emotional pacing and its successful effort to elevate the depth of its central character study.
