Fukuyama Gekijou: Natsu no Himitsu

Fukuyama Gekijou: Natsu no Himitsu, or Fukuyama Theater: Summer Secret, was released by Youmex in 1990 as an original video animation. It serves as a spin-off title based on the popular manga and anime series Kure-nai Sanshirou and its associated multimedia projects, focusing on a more whimsical, episodic format that highlights the character Fukuyama. The production emerged during a period of prolific OVA experimentation in Japan, where studios frequently utilized established character archetypes to explore standalone narratives outside of longer, serialized storylines.

The design and aesthetic of the piece reflect the late 1980s and early 1990s animation style typical of Youmex productions, prioritizing a lighthearted, comedic tone. Directed by those familiar with the source material, the animation was crafted to capture the charm of its lead characters while keeping the visual quality consistent with the home video market standards of the era. Upon its release, it was received primarily as a niche curiosity for fans of the existing franchise, functioning as a nostalgic piece of side-content rather than a significant departure for the animation studio.
