Funassyi to Yukaina Kyoudai

Funassyi to Yukaina Kyoudai was released in 2015 as a short-form original net animation series, building on the meteoric rise of Funassyi, the unofficial mascot for Funabashi City. Created in 2011, the pear-fairy character had become a national cultural phenomenon due to its manic energy and unconventional personality, leading Bandai to produce this series to further capitalize on the mascot's commercial reach and broad appeal among Japanese television audiences.

The animation features Funassyi alongside a cast of characters intended to mirror its chaotic, high-energy persona. Produced with a focus on simple, comedic storytelling, the series was designed to translate the mascot's spontaneous live-action interactions into an animated medium. While reception was largely focused on the existing fan base of the character, the show serves as a documented example of the extensive multimedia marketing efforts surrounding Japan's yuru-chara mascot subculture.
