Where it came from
Fushigi no Kuni de Alice to: Dive in Wonderland was produced by P.A.Works and released in 2025 as a contemporary reimagining of Lewis Carroll's classic literature. The studio sought to blend their signature high-fidelity animation style with a surrealist aesthetic, aiming to capture the disjointed and dreamlike quality of the original text through modern digital compositing techniques.
The film was developed as part of a trend toward revisiting public domain literary works within the Japanese animation industry. While reception focused heavily on the visual craftsmanship and the studio's technical execution of the Wonderland sequences, the narrative approach was noted for its departure from traditional adaptations, opting for a more fragmented, psychological exploration of the protagonist's journey.
