For the past 10-odd years, futsal has been booming across the world. After watching Tokinari Tennoji represent Japan in the U-18 World Cup, Haru Yamato aspires to be a player like him. He joins the Koyo Gakuen Futsal Club where he meets teammates Seiichiro Sakaki, a loner who refuses to pass the ball to anyone, and Toi Tsukioka, who is burdened by a past that nearly made him quit futsal for good.

Where it came from
Futsal Boys!!!!! emerged in 2022 as a multimedia project developed by Bandai Namco Arts, Bandai Namco Entertainment, and Diomedea. The franchise was conceived as a cross-media initiative aimed at revitalizing interest in futsal through a combination of a mobile game, live events, and an anime series. The television adaptation was produced by studio Diomedea, which tasked the production team with balancing high-energy sports sequences with the character-driven narrative typical of idol-adjacent multimedia projects.
The series design focuses on a sprawling ensemble cast representing various high school teams, with character designs originally drafted by several different manga artists, including Mizuki Kawashita and Takako Shimura, to provide distinct visual identities for each school's squad. Upon its release, the anime was primarily received by an established niche of fans who followed the project's development across its various platforms, serving as a functional promotional vehicle for the overarching franchise.
