Future Boy Conan Movie

Future Boy Conan: The Big Giant Robot Resurrection was released in 1979 as a feature-length compilation film based on the 1978 television series directed by Hayao Miyazaki. Produced by Nippon Animation, the movie was crafted to condense the ambitious narrative of the original show for theatrical audiences, allowing viewers to revisit the post-apocalyptic adventures of Conan and Lana in a cinematic format. It serves as a distillation of the studio's early experiments with high-stakes storytelling and world-building.

The design of the series and the film is rooted in the collaborative efforts of the studio's creative team, most notably Miyazaki, who utilized the project to refine the distinctive visual language that would later define his studio's style. The aesthetic draws heavily from industrial-retro tropes mixed with a focus on human endurance and environmental themes. While the film was initially conceived as a way to capitalize on the popularity of the television series, it is now recognized as a key historical artifact in the evolution of Miyazaki's directorial career and his early approach to character-driven animation.
