To earn the coveted title as the strongest fighter in the world, Gao and Bal team up to challenge other fighters in the "World Buddy Cup". The two will have to battle others in a card game called Buddyfight, which allows monsters to fight alongside humans as buddies. Where it came from
Future Card Buddyfight Triple D was produced by Studio Xebec and premiered in 2016 as the third major iteration of the Buddyfight anime franchise. The series was designed to build upon the momentum of its predecessors by introducing new card mechanics and a shift in the narrative stakes, focusing on the character Gao Mikado as he faced more formidable challenges within the Buddyfight world. The animation maintained the studio's hallmark high-energy aesthetic, which was crafted to resonate with a young demographic interested in the card game's tactile and competitive nature.
The series was part of a larger multimedia strategy by Bushiroad to synchronize animated storytelling with real-world collectible card game releases. Designers and writers aimed to create a seamless bridge between the onscreen battles and the physical card play, resulting in a show that functioned both as entertainment and as a marketing vehicle for the Triple D expansion sets. While it received a mixed critical reception regarding its pacing, it was generally praised by fans of the genre for its vibrant character designs and its commitment to the established rules and lore of the Buddyfight universe.
