Gan Gan Ganko-chan 2nd Season

Gan Gan Ganko-chan is a long-running educational puppet series originally produced by NHK, centering on a young, prehistoric girl named Ganko-chan who moves to the modern day. The 2nd season, released in 2018, represents a stylistic shift from the traditional puppet format into a fully animated television series. Produced by the creative studio 10GAUGE, this iteration aimed to modernize the franchise for a new generation of younger viewers while retaining the core values of empathy, social cooperation, and scientific curiosity that defined the original broadcasts.

The animation style adopted by 10GAUGE favored vibrant colors and expressive, simplified character designs to distinguish the series from its live-action predecessors. By transitioning to animation, the production team was able to place the characters in more dynamic environments, allowing for a broader scope of storytelling that spanned both the distant past and the present. The 2nd season was well-received as an effective pedagogical tool, praised for its gentle humor and its ability to seamlessly integrate elementary moral lessons into an engaging, episodic narrative format.
