Garakowa -Restore the World- was released in 2016 as a feature-length science fiction anime produced by A-1 Pictures. The project originated from 'D.backup,' a winning entry in the 2013 Anime Adaptation Contest hosted by Pony Canyon, which sought to discover original stories capable of being developed into animation. The film is set in the 'Box of Wisdom,' a digital archive containing the memories and history of humanity, focusing on the preservation of data against a corrupting force known as viruses.

Directed by Masashi Ishihama with a screenplay by Fumihiko Shimo, the production sought to explore themes of existence and identity through the lens of a virtual landscape. The visual style, characterized by ethereal color palettes and abstract digital environments, was heavily influenced by the work of illustrator Kantoku, who served as the original character designer. While the film was noted for its ambitious visual aesthetic, it received a mixed critical reception, with some reviewers praising its imaginative concept while others found its narrative pacing and exposition difficult to navigate within the movie format.
