Where it came from
Genei wo Kakeru Taiyou: Fumikome nai Kokoro is an original video animation released in 2013 as a direct companion to the magical girl series Genei wo Kakeru Taiyou, or Day Break Illusion. Produced by AIC and directed by Keizō Kusakawa, the production emerged during a period when the studio was exploring darker, more psychological takes on the established mahō shōjo genre, moving away from traditional lighthearted tropes toward themes of fate and self-destruction.
The aesthetic design of this OVA follows the character concepts established by artist Redjuice, known for his distinct, sharp visual style and intricate costume details. The project was intended to flesh out the emotional motivations of the core cast following the conclusion of the television series. Upon its release, it was received primarily by dedicated fans of the franchise who appreciated the effort to provide closure to the narrative arcs that the limited runtime of the broadcast episodes left unresolved.
