Where it came from
Generation of Chaos Next: Chikai no Pendant was produced by Idea Factory in 2002 as an original video animation intended to serve as a companion piece to their expanding tactical role-playing game franchise. The project was conceived during a period when the studio was heavily invested in cross-media synergy, attempting to build a wider narrative universe around the Generation of Chaos series by translating its complex political world-building and lore into a serialized anime format.
The production sought to capture the high-fantasy aesthetic associated with the game's character designs, focusing on the dramatic conflicts between various kingdoms. While the animation was aimed primarily at the existing fanbase of the console titles, its reception was tempered by the niche nature of the source material. It remains a representative artifact of the early 2000s trend of releasing promotional anime adaptations to bolster interest in secondary gaming properties.
