Where it came from
Generation of Chaos was released in 2001 by Idea Factory, serving as a tactical role-playing game that expanded the studio's interest in world-building and complex strategy mechanics. The title was developed to establish a robust foundation for what would become a long-running franchise on the PlayStation 2, reflecting the era's industry trend of blending deep administrative simulation with real-time combat systems.
The game is noted for its intricate art direction and dense lore, which were designed to appeal to enthusiasts of hardcore strategy titles. While the reception was polarized due to the game's steep learning curve and unconventional menu-heavy interface, it achieved a cult status among fans of niche Japanese strategy games, solidifying Idea Factory's reputation as a developer willing to prioritize complex, experimental gameplay systems over mainstream accessibility.
