Where it came from
Getter Robo Arc was produced by Bee Media and released in 2021 as the final animated installment of the classic Getter Robo manga series originally created by Ken Ishikawa and Go Nagai. The project was intended to serve as a long-awaited adaptation of the 2002 manga of the same name, completing the narrative arc that began with the original Getter Robo saga decades prior.
The animation design sought to bridge the gap between the gritty, visceral style of Ishikawa's late-career manga and modern digital animation techniques. While the series was met with enthusiasm by long-time fans of the Super Robot genre for its commitment to the source material's complex, often nihilistic tone, it was also noted for its polarizing visual choices and the density of its lore, which required familiarity with the previous manga chapters to fully appreciate.
