From deep within the Earth's surface, the Dinosaur Kingdom make their move to wipe out mankind and conquer the planet with their mechanical dinosaurs. After a prototype Getter Robo is shot down by a mechanical dinosaur, the Saotome Research Institute decides to use the real Getter Robo, which is combat-capable. Due to a lack of pilots in the institute, Ryo Nagare goes to his college to persuade martial artist Musashi Tomoe and outcast Hayato Jin to join him and pilot the Getter Machines to combat the new threat and protect mankind.

Where it came from
Getter Robo debuted in 1974 as a pioneering television series produced by Toei Animation, based on the manga created by Ken Ishikawa and Go Nagai. It is widely recognized as the foundational work of the 'combination robot' genre, introducing the innovative concept of multiple individual vehicles—the Eagle, Jaguar, and Bear—merging into distinct robot configurations. This mechanical versatility was revolutionary for its time, shifting the focus of the genre toward modular design.
The series was designed to emphasize dynamic action and high-stakes conflict, with the creative team aiming for a darker, more visceral tone than its contemporaries. The character and mecha designs, spearheaded by the partnership of Nagai and Ishikawa, became iconic for their sharp, aggressive aesthetics. Upon its release, the show achieved significant success in Japan, solidifying its place in anime history and establishing a template for the super robot genre that has influenced countless series in the decades since.
