Gifted

Gifted is a 2017 American drama film directed by Marc Webb, written by Tom Flynn, and produced by Karen Lunder and Andy Cohen. The film was developed to explore the complexities of familial responsibility and the intellectual isolation of gifted children, drawing inspiration from Flynn's own experiences and a desire to highlight the emotional necessity of a standard childhood. It was filmed primarily in Georgia, utilizing a naturalistic aesthetic to contrast the protagonist's mathematical genius with the mundane, grounded reality of her home life.

The film was well received for the performances of Chris Evans and Mckenna Grace, marking a tonal shift for Webb after his work on the Amazing Spider-Man franchise. Critics praised the screenplay's restraint in handling the high-stakes legal battle over child custody, focusing instead on the interpersonal relationships between a niece and her uncle. It remains a representative example of mid-budget character-driven dramas produced by Fox Searchlight Pictures during the late 2010s.
