Where it came from
The God Eater Prologue was released in 2009 by the animation studio ufotable to serve as a promotional bridge for the inaugural God Eater video game title. Tasked with building anticipation for the game’s post-apocalyptic setting, the studio produced this short film to establish the tone and visual identity of the series, effectively introducing the world where humanity fights for survival against the monstrous Aragami.
Directed and storyboarded by Takayuki Hirao, the project showcased the studio's signature integration of traditional 2D animation with high-end digital effects. The prologue was well-regarded for its atmospheric world-building and character dynamics, which helped the title secure a dedicated following. Its success directly influenced the studio's continued involvement with the franchise, including the eventual production of the full-length television series years later.
