Where it came from
GOD EATER Reso Nantoka Gekijou #EX was produced in 2018 by studio Passione as a series of short, comedic ONA episodes centered on the characters from the God Eater franchise. Created to provide a lighthearted departure from the series' typically somber and post-apocalyptic tone, these shorts leaned into the 'chibi' aesthetic to satirize character dynamics and common tropes within the action-heavy source material.
The animation style favored simplified, expressive character designs intended for quick, humorous storytelling rather than the cinematic depth of the main series. Reception was largely confined to the established fanbase of the franchise, serving as supplemental promotional content that showcased the studio's ability to pivot between different genre sensibilities while maintaining the brand identity of the God Eater universe.
